Back from Thailand on Saturday, work on Monday, holiday for Poya (new moon) on Tuesday. Sri Lanka has a lot of holidays a man told me on my early morning walk this morning, “It makes Sri Lankans very lazy.” He was Sri Lankan and although retired still has a part time job, so I wasn’t sure if he was including himself in the statement.
Thalangama had changed significantly in the month since I last visited. There is a lot of floating vegetation and it moves with the rains, as people harvest the water lilies and periodically clean the place up.
The highlight of this morning’s walk was a common hawk cuckoo chick sitting noisily on a branch and demanding caterpillars from its ‘parents’, a pair of yellow-billed babblers.
